Here are 7 Bible verses that speak about receiving help and overcoming attacks when the enemy comes after you.
Revelation 12:11 “And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.”
The Apostle John gives us the context of this verse and it is where he “heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night” (Rev 12:10). The accuser is of course Satan or the Devil and he is a slanderer and accuses believers day and night before God that we are still sinning, which of course is true (1 John 1:8, 10). No Christian is sinless but we do sin less than we used too. The good news is good because of what we read in 2 Corinthians 5:21 “For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him” so there Satan! Take that! We don’t overcome the accuser except by the blood of the Lamb and by our testimony of the word and this is clearly the Word of God, the Bible. Know this; we don’t fight for victory…we fight from victory.
Ephesians 6:11 “Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.”
Imagine an army going out to warn with no armor? They’d be destroyed in short order but our enemy is cleverer than any human general could ever be. If battling this invisible foe we’ll need very bit of our armor like the breastplate of righteousness, our feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God’ (Eph 6:14-17). The only offensive weapon we have is the “sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God” and that is found in the Bible. Every time Satan tempted Jesus He fought back by using the Word of God in His temptation in the wilderness (Luke 4:1-13). If Jesus used the sword of the Word, how much more do we need it? No wonder David wrote “I have stored up (memorized) your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you” (Psalm 19:11). David was really saying that by storing up the word (the sword) this can keep us from sinning which is what is meant by Psalm 37:31 that if “The law of their God is in their hearts; their feet do not slip.”
Ephesians 6:12 “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”
This was the introduction to Paul’s admonition to put on the whole armor of God. Notice that he said “the whole armor” and not just what we think we need. We need it all because we fight an invisible enemy and “not against flesh and blood.” It would be easier if we could see the foe but we cannot see Satan or his demons since they are spirit beings. We are in direct opposition to the principalities, powers, and the rulers of the darkness of this world and its spiritual wickedness in high places that we do battle with. This means that Satan works through human governments, authorities, and powers but we have the Supreme Power in Christ Jesus Who conquered the foe and vanquished him at the cross.
1 John 4:1 “Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.”
Did you know that Satan has his own churches, he has his own ministers, and he has his own doctrine? That’s why the Apostle John warned us to not believe every spirit we hear because they could be from evil spirits so we must “test” or “try the spirits” to see if they’re truly “of God” since many false prophets are already in the world. They were already in the world in John’s day and no doubt, they are in the world today. We know who inspires these false prophets so the more you read the Bible the more you can discern truth from error. You can test or try the teachings by laying them side by side with the Word of God to see it it’s really true or not.
2 Corinthians 11:13-14 “For such people are false apostles, deceitful workers, masquerading as apostles of Christ. And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. It is not surprising, then, if his servants also masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their end will be what their actions deserve.”
As I mentioned in the above paragraph, don’t think that Satan doesn’t have his own ministers because he does. You can tell Satan’s ministers not so much by what they do preach but by what they leave out like the need for repentance (turning away, forsaking sins, e.g. Mark 1:15), the cross, trusting in or believing in Christ (John 3:36), Jesus is the one and only way (Acts 4:12), that the blood of the Lamb is necessary for salvation (John 3:16), and that grace is a free, unmerited gift from God (Eph 2:8-9). If these essentials are missing, you’ve either got a biblically illiterate preacher or you’ve got a servant of Satan who will “masquerade as servants of righteousness.” Paul warned “even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let them be under God’s curse” (Gal 1:8)!
2 Corinthians 4:3-4 “And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.”
Satan hates Christians, he hates God, and He hates the Word of God because by the Word of God and the Spirit of God the scales are removed and our blindness to the gospel message is cured and just as Jesus opened the eyes of the blind, He opens our eyes to see our need for Him as Savior. Satan wants to keep the world in darkness since the “god of this world” (Satan) “has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ.” Satan wants this veil to remain so that they can’t see the light of the world and that is Jesus Christ (John 1:4-9).
2 Corinthians 2:11 “in order that Satan might not outwit us. For we are not unaware of his schemes.”
Paul wrote more about the wiles of the Devil in all likelihood because he was being opposed by him more than anyone else (next to Christ). The many things he wrote about warning the church about Satan were written “in order that Satan might not outwit” them and us. Paul was well aware of Satan’s schemes, having dealt with them firsthand.
Conclusion
The Apostle John reassures us that “you have overcome the evil one” (1 John 2:13) because Jesus said “I have overcome the world” (John 16:33c) which is why Jesus “gave Himself for our sins to rescue us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father” (Gal 1:4). He, by His supreme sacrifice, drove out the “prince (or ruler) of this world” (John 12:31). Even so, the best advice I can give you is what Peter wrote to “Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour” (1 Pet 5:8).
