Are there any other ways to obtain salvation? Are there any other paths to heaven? Is Jesus the only way to heaven?
Are There Any Other Ways To Obtain Salvation?
To make sure, let’s take a look at the other world’s religions and their leaders.
Buddhism: This religion is based upon Siddhartha Gautama who is known as Buddha (the enlightened one). He taught that humans need to escape their endless cycles of suffering and rebirth. It is because they are ignorant that they remain trapped in the endless cycles. They must align themselves with positive actions and eliminate any unwholesome actions of body, speech, and mind. Supposedly seeds take root in either positive or negative ways and so by positive works they can break free of the suffering and rebirth cycles with the goal of reaching the highest of the 31 planes of existence. The highest order that can possibly be reached is the Devas or Brahmas, which are variously translated to mean deities or gods. Theravada Buddhism does not allow for any divine forgiveness of one’s karma and so there is no certainty with which one can know for sure if they will reach the state of Nirvana. Buddha was born sometime between the 4th and 6th centuries BC. Many different forms of Buddhism evolved after his death and are practiced by almost 330-500 million (lower estimates).
Is eternal life, entry into heaven or salvation possible through the practice of Buddhism? There is no certainty at all because there is no allowance for divine forgiveness of one’s karma and any escape from the cycle of suffering and rebirth is utterly dependent upon human works or karma.
Hinduism: This religion involves a large array of laws and principles of daily morality. This is the only world religion of significance that has no actual founder. Like Buddhism, it teaches that what happens to a person is a result of their actions – much like karma. Good conduct and works are the basis of its philosophy which springs from the Brahma. Some Hindus are theistic and believe the universe is cycle and thus eternal, while other Hindus are atheistic. They hold that reincarnation is determined by karma law and that salvation is the escape of this cycle of birth and death. There are nearly one billion Hindus.
Is eternal life, entry into heaven or salvation possible through the practice of Hinduism? Like Buddhism, Hindu’s can never have any certainty of eternal life or salvation.
Islam: This religion is monotheistic. It holds that there is only one god and adherents to Islam are called Muslims. Muhammad (AD 570-643) is not actually regarded as the founder of Islam but is its first prophet sent by God. He was actually believed to be God’s messenger to restore the original monotheistic faith that was held originally by Adam, Abraham, Moses, and Jesus. He is viewed as the last prophet sent from God and that no further prophets were needed. They regard Jesus as only a prophet and not divine even though they do acknowledge His entrance into heaven. Around 1.5 billion Muslims hold to the Islamic faith.
Is eternal life, entry into heaven or salvation possible through the practice of Islam? Islamists can never know with certainty that they will attain eternal life in heaven since they depend heavily on works.
Christianity: This religion holds that there is One God in three Persons. They consist of God the Father, God the Son (Jesus Christ), and God the Holy Spirit. These three are commonly called the Holy Trinity. The founder of Christianity is Jesus Christ. The word Christian means to be Christ-like or literally, “crystallized” into One like Christ. These followers believe that Jesus Christ, Who Is God, existed before the earth was created and that God created the world. The Trinity agreed together that Jesus Christ the Son would come to earth and be born of a virgin, live a sinless and perfect life, would give His life to redeem humans who had fallen from grace in the Garden of Eden, and this redemption would be paid in full by the human life of the God-Man, Jesus Christ. This sacrifice would satisfy the wrath of God by being placed on the Son of God (Jesus Christ). He would then be resurrected to life and make possible the salvation of all of those who would believe in Him. This belief in Him (Jesus) would make those believers justified before a Holy God and make their entry into eternal life and heaven a certainty. Thus, their salvation would not have to depend upon their own merit or good works. This is the world’s largest religion, occupying 33% of the world’s population with over 2.1 billion people.
Today Jesus Christ is seated at the right hand of the Father. His being seated means that His work of redemption is completed as He said at the cross of Calvary, “It is finished” (John 19:30). In Greek, “It is finished” is “tetelestai”. The meaning of this Greek word is “it is accomplished”, or “paid in full”. This refers to the sacrifice of what is termed the blood of the Lamb of God (which Jesus is called several times throughout Scripture). Christianity has a Holy Book called the Bible and it has a Scripture that says what this sacrifice accomplished: “he did it to demonstrate his righteousness at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus“(Rom 3:26).
Is eternal life, entry into heaven or salvation possible through the practice of Christianity? Yes, as John 3:16 and multiple scriptures say that anyone who believes in Him has (already has, present indicative) eternal life and will never perish and have everlasting or eternal life. This is the only religious leader of all the world’s religions that its leader died but came back to life. There are hundreds of eye witnesses to testify to this fact and He still lives today.
Are There Any Other Paths To Heaven?
There appear to be no other paths with 100% certainty that a person can make it to heaven. All other world religions outside of Christianity can offer no assurance at all that they will gain entrance into heaven. All other world religions are based upon works, karma, or good deeds and their followers can never be sure that they have done enough works to enter heaven or the presence of God. The vast majority of religions, other than Christianity, offer no forgiveness of bad deeds, morality, or evil works. Christianity alone offers a guarantee of a path to heaven and it is made possible by God – only through Jesus Christ – and He actually is called the Guarantee.
Is Jesus the Only Way To Heaven?
If you believe the Bible then you must believe that Jesus is the only way to heaven. There are no other alternatives. Jesus Himself makes this clear along with other writers of the New Testament.
John 3:18 “Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.”
John 14:6 “Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
John 17:3 “Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.”
John 3:13-15 “No one has ever gone into heaven except the one who came from heaven—the Son of Man. Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, that everyone who believes may have eternal life in him.”
Acts 4:12 “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.”
Acts 16:30b-31a “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved.”
Romans 10:9-11 “If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. As Scripture says, “Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame.”
If you believe the Bible and Jesus Christ, and I am thoroughly convinced in believing, then truly Jesus is the one and only way to heaven, to eternal life, and to salvation. Jesus alone is the only leader of any major religion that we can say that He is alive! All others are still in their graves. Jesus’ tomb was found empty for He is risen and is alive today. Therefore, there is no other way to heaven, period.
