Did you ever just hear a great Christian song and just want to praise the Lord? It’s not only the upbeat songs, I think it is just as inspiring to hear a Christian song that speaks the Word of God through the lyrics and music. Here are a few songs that come straight to the top of my list. Enjoy, and don’t be afraid to check out my YouTube channel for a video of most of the songs listed here that you can sing along with.
Featured Song:
Do Everything (Steven Curtis Chapman)
Steven Curtis Chapman has been writing songs for as long as I can remember. He was at the front of contemporary Christian music and continues to write and perform God-honoring music. This upbeat song speaks to everyone. The message is clearly from Colossians 3:17 “And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.”. The music is in his “rhythm guitar” style and by the time you finish listening to the song you find yourself singing along – you cannot help yourself! View the video in the upper right area of this page and sing your heart out.
Because I’m Forgiven (Phillips, Craig & Dean)
This one is not on my playlist, you can listen to it here: Because
Sample Lyrics:
There’s a reason why I bring
You this simple offering
Pouring out my love to You
And though my heart cannot express
All this joy and gratefulness
Still I sing this song of love and thanks and praise.
Chorus:
It’s because I’m forgiven
It’s because I’m free
It’s because You’ve shown my mercy and You believed in me
It’s because You’re my Savior
It’s because You’re my friend
And Your love it lifts me higher than I’ve ever been.
Oh the wonder of Your ways
Oh the measure of Your grace
Greater than my heart can know
So how could I not celebrate
How could I not bless Your name
Singing out a song of love and thanks and praise.
Repeat chorus.
Come Thou Fount (Robert Robinson)
This great hymn of faith is based upon a traditional American melody from 1813. The lyrics, taken from 1 Samuel 7:12 were penned by Robert Robinson. Great background information for this song is found at SongsandHymns.org. I love how Jadon Lavik sings this one. Listen to it on my YouTube channel.
Give Me Your Eyes (Brandon Heath & Jason Ingram)
One day Brandon Heath was people-watching at the airport. This tugged at his heart as he wondered how he could be more like Jesus to have His eyes and compassion for people. Heath and Ingram won a Dove Award in 2009 for “Give Me Your Eyes” and it was the 2nd most played song on Christian contemporary Radio according to a report by the 700 Club.
Glorious Day [Living He Loved Me] (Casting Crowns)
This song is a re-write of the original song “One Day” written by J. Wilbur Chapman. It was put to new melody by Mark Hall, lead singer of Casting Crowns [1] This video can be viewed here: Glorious Day
Sample Lyrics:
One day when heaven was filled with His praises
One day when sin was as black as could be
Jesus came forth to be born of a virgin
Dwelt among men, my example is He
Word became flesh and the light shined among us
His glory revealed
Living, He loved me, dying, He saved me
Buried, He carried my sins far away
Rising, He justified freely forever
One day He’s coming
Oh glorious day, oh glorious day
One day they led Him up Calvary’s mountain
One day they nailed Him to die on a tree
Suffering anguish, despised and rejected
Bearing our sins, my Redeemer is He
Hands that healed nations, stretched out on a tree
And took the nails for me
One day the grave could conceal Him no longer
One day the stone rolled away from the door
Then He arose, over death He had conquered
Now He’s ascended, my Lord evermore
Death could not hold Him, the grave could not keep Him
From rising again
One day the trumpet will sound for His coming
One day the skies with His glories will shine
Wonderful day, my beloved one, bringing
My Savior, Jesus, is mine
Great is Thy Faithfulness (Thomas Obadiah Chisolm)
This great hymn of faith was published from a poem in 1923. Although it is not clearly documented, I am always reminded of Lamentations 3:22-23 whenever I hear the song. They are: “It is of the LORD’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.” Of course this hymn was made popular by the voice of George Beverly Shea in 1945 when he began singing it at the Billy Graham crusades. Be sure to listen to this song sung by CeCe Winans on my YouTube channel.
How Great Thou Art (Carl Boberg)
This poem “O Store Gud”, a Swedish poem by Carl Boberg has become one of the most loved hymns of all time. This is my favorite hymns and I cannot ever sing it without shedding a tear for all it says. I like how Carrie Underwood sings this one here on YouTube
In Better Hands Now (Jim Daddario, Catt Gravitt, & Thomas Ronald Hardwell)
This song was released by Natalie Grant and is available on two of her albums: Miscellaneous and Relentless Love Revolution. It speaks of the refuge and shelter that we can know safe in the hand of God.
Sample Lyrics:
It’s hard to stand on shifting sand
It’s hard to shine in the shadows of the night
You can’t be free if you don’t reach for help
You can’t love if you dont love yourself
There is hope when my faith runs out
Cause I’m in better hands now
It’s like the sun is shining when the rain is pouring down
It’s like my soul is flying though my feet are on the ground
So take this heart of mine there’s no doubt
I’m in better hands now
I am strong all because of you
I stand in awe of every mountain that you move
Oh I am changed, yesterday is gone
I am safe from this moment on
There’s no fear when the night comes ’round
I’m in better hands now
It’s like the sun is shining when the rain is pouring down
It’s like my soul is flying though my feet are on the ground
So take this heart of mine there’s no doubt
I’m in better hands now
It’s like the sun is shining when the rain is pouring down
It’s like my soul is flying though my feet are on the ground
Its like the world is silent though I know it isnt true
Its like the breath of Jesus is right here in this room
So take this heart of mine there’s no doubt
I’m in better hands now
I’m in better hands now
Rise (Shawn McDonald)
This song is based on the Words of 1 John 4:4 9 “Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.” A song that comes straight from the scriptures is great – and put it together with this rhythm – outstanding!
Sample Lyrics:
Yes I will rise
Out of these ashes rise
From this trouble I have found
And this rubble on the ground
I will rise
Yes I will rise
Out of these ashes rise
From this trouble I have found
And this rubble on the ground
I will rise
Cause He Who is in me
Is greater than I will ever be
And I will rise
Sometimes my heart is on the ground
And hope is nowhere to be found
Love is a figment I once knew
And yet I hold on to what I know is true
Yes I will rise

Safe (Phil Wickham) with Bart Millard
This is a lovely song that is written and sung by Phil Wickham with backup vocals by MercyMe’s front man, Bart Millard. It reminds us of how we can find safety, peace and rest in the arms of our Heavenly Father. Take a look at the lyrics:
Sample Lyrics:
To the one who’s dreams are falling all apart
And all you’re left with is a tired and broken heart
I can tell by your eyes you think your on your own
but you’re not all alone
Have you heard of the One who can calm the raging seas
Give sight to the blind, pull the lame up to their feet
With a love so strong he’ll never let you go
oh you’re not alone
Chorus:
You will be safe in His arms
You will be safe in His arms
‘Cause the hands that hold the world are holding your heart
This is the promise He made
He will be with You always
When everything is falling apart
You will be safe in His arms
Did you know that the voice that brings the dead to life
Is the very same voice that calls you to rise
So hear Him now He’s calling you home
You will never be alone
Bridge:
These are the hands that built the mountains
the hands that calm the seas
These are the arms that hold the heavens
they are holding you and me
These are hands that healed the leper
Pulled the lame up to their feet
These are the arms that were nailed to a cross
to break our chains and set us free
Someone Worth Dying For (Mike’s Chair)
This is another great song that speaks to all people, no matter what the walk in life. It is a great song of hope and promise. It tells how the gift of grace is available to everyone, no matter whom you are and what you have done. You are worth dying for and that is why Jesus paid the ultimate price to save your soul.
Sample Lyrics:
You might be the wife,
Waiting up at night
You might be the man,
Struggling to provide
Feeling like it’s hopeless
Maybe you’re the son,
Who chose a broken road
Maybe you’re the girl,
Thinking you’ll end up alone
Praying God can you hear me?
Oh God are you listening?
(Chorus)
Am I more than flesh and bone?
Am I really something beautiful?
Yeah, I wanna believe, I wanna believe that
I’m not just some wandering soul
That you don’t see and you don’t know
Yeah I wanna believe, Jesus help me believe that I
Am someone worth dying for
I know you’ve heard the truth that God has set you free
But you think you’re the one that grace could never reach
So you just keep asking, what everybody’s asking
Chorus
You’re worth it, you can’t earn it
Yeah the Cross has proven
That you’re sacred and blameless
Your life has purpose
You are more than flesh and bone
Can’t you see you’re something beautiful
Yeah you gotta believe, you gotta believe
He wants you to see, He wants you to see
That you’re not just some wandering soul
That can’t be seen and can’t be known
Yeah you gotta believe, you gotta believe that you
Are someone worth dying for
You’re someone worth dying for
You’re someone worth dying for
Strong Enough (Matthew West)
Here is a video about the story behind this great song by Matthew West. It incorporates my life verse: Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me” Powerful!
Suitcases (Dara Maclean & Ian Eskelin)
Dara Maclean is a new Christian artist and her first single “Suitcases” reminds us that we don’t need to carry baggage when we are free in Christ. Her sultry voice is perfect for this song and I think you will enjoy it. Take a look at the lyrics:
Sample Lyrics:
How can you move when they’re weighing you down
What can you do when you’re tied to the ground, yeah
You carry your burdens, heavy like gravity
Just let them go now, there’s freedom in release
You can’t run when you’re holding suitcases
It’s a new day throw away your mistakes and open up your heart
Lay down your guard, you don’t have to be afraid
Just breathe, your load can be lifted
There’s a better way when you know you’re forgiven
Open up your heart, lay down your guard
You don’t have to be afraid
Can you imagine what it’s like to be free
Well, send those bags packing, they’re not what you need
Abandon your troubles by the side of the street
Just let them go now, believe me
You can’t run when you’re holding suitcases
It’s a new day throw away your mistakes and open up your heart
Lay down your guard, you don’t have to be afraid
Just breathe, your load can be lifted
There’s a better way when you know you’re forgiven
Open up your heart, lay down your guard
You don’t have to be afraid
There’s nothing holding you back now, just run
You can’t run when you’re holding suitcases
It’s a new day throw away your mistakes and open up your heart
Lay down your guard, you don’t have to be afraid
Just breathe, your load can be lifted
There’s a better way when you know you’re forgiven
Open up your heart, lay down your guard
You don’t have to be
You don’t have to be afraid
We Are (Kari Jobe)
Are you letting the Light of Jesus shine through your life? Kari Jobe helps us to focus on this in her latest single: “We Are”.
Sample Lyrics:
Every secret, every shame
Every fear, every pain
Live inside the dark
But that’s not who we are
We are children of the day
So wake up sleeper, lift your head
We were meant for more than this
Fight the shadows conquer death
Make the most of the time we have left
We are the light of the world
We are the city on a hill
We are the light of the world
We gotta, we gotta, we gotta let the light shine
We are the light of the world
We are the city on a hill
We are the light of the world
We gotta, we gotta, we gotta let the light shine
Let the light shine, let the light shine
We are called to the spread the news
Tell the world the simple truth
Jesus came to save, there’s freedom in His Name
So let it all break through
We are the light of the world
We are the city on a hill
We are the light of the world
We gotta, we gotta, we gotta let the light shine
We are the light of the world
We are the city on a hill
We are the light of the world
We gotta, we gotta, we gotta let the light shine
Let the light shine
Let the light shine
What Do I Know of Holy (Allie Rogers & Jenny Simmons)
This is a lovely song that helps us to reflect upon how little we know of our Lord. Our God is so awesome, what do we really know of Him? He is so huge, how can we comprehend His majesty? Our daily walk with the Lord opens our eyes. Are you daily in the Word? The only way to know the Lord is to read what He has to say and you can read it in His Word, the Holy Bible. This song is about a relationship. I love this song; listen to it here: What Do I Know of Holy
